Dear Friend,

alliance has been providing a screening service for area congregations for almost 15
years that has statistically demonstrated the ability to increase the efficiency and

CCHASM membership assists in avoiding duplication of services.
Through the years we have discovered that only about 20% of the calls received
requesting emergency financial or food assistance are coming from individuals with
legitimate, verifiable crisis that are beyond ones ability to control. Think of the time you
or your staff spend trying to discern or screen these calls. Without an in depth screening
process there is a good probability that 80% of your benevolence giving is going to
those that are not genuinely experiencing a legitimate crisis beyond their ability to control.
CCHASM has a specialized screening process that verifies genuine need by examining
and verifying approximately 400 calls each month. We compile complete household
income and expense information and call vendors to verify payment history. We seek
documentation from employers, doctors and other pertinent parties to verify requests,
when necessary, and look for any inconsistencies in information. More importantly we
seek to identify the root cause of each emergency situation and rather than just providing
a band-aid, we seek to empower individuals towards self-sufficiency.
CCHASM has developed a large network of collaborative partners who have the ability
to put into the hands of those in need the power and ability to become independent and
overcome their emergency situations.
CCHASM also works with 15 area food pantries that provide food to free up cash to
many families each month. Additionally our member food pantries have the capacity to
serve approximately 88 households on a weekly basis with emergency food needs.
When you become a member of the Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social
Ministry, you link your congregation with a non- profit agency that specializes and has
developed the tools to truly serve the emergency needs of our community. Additionally
by becoming a member of our growing alliance you can give more time to engaging in
other ministry activity, knowing that CCHASM has provided you the confidence that
you are helping residents of our community who are experiencing genuine crisis. We
