| CCHASM Membership Answered Our Prayers |
Lord. Thirty minutes later, he would hang up the phone. It got to the point where the
phone, asking them if they had a church affiliation and if they knew Jesus as their Lord.
Thirty minutes later, he would hang up the phone. It got to the point where nearly
every day someone was calling that needed help-sometimes several calls in one day. I
learned from those folks calling in that they would just go through the yellow pages and
call all the churches listed.
Some people would call me two times in a row because they forgot which church they
had just dialed. Then there were those folks who walked in off the street looking for
help. As the phones rang and project deadlines mounted, all that was in my power to
do was to pray for them. Before long, I was stressed to finish my office work and
feeling drained.
My eyes were truly opened, as my pastor would sometimes follow through with a
family’s request only to find out that they were part of a scam and were not interested
in a ‘hand up’ but a ‘hand out.’ More often we learned that the family’s crisis was not a
true emergency. After a while there was too much time being spent on these inquiries
and I would mumble to myself, “There has got to be a better way to handle this.”
The Lord must have heard my prayer because our church was introduced to
CCHASM shortly thereafter. What a blessing to have this organization serving in the
body of Christ and the community! This organization is not only equipped to meet the
monetary needs of people but the spiritual needs as well. Praise God for this wonderful
combination! Some folks were already familiar with CCHASM and would quickly
'hang up' on me when I mentioned we are partnered with CCHASM.
Jesus said that we would always have the poor among us. The calls and walk-ins
continue today. Today, I can confidently refer these pleas to CCHASM knowing their
case will be heard. My pastor no longer has a never-ending stack of phone calls to
return. CCHASM is an answer to the prayers of church staff. Today I can continue
my work while making music to the Lord in my heart
