What is WINGS?
Winning Independence through Nurturing, Guidance and Support is CCHASM’s adult monitoring
project. There are many families in our community, who hold a vision of what their lives could be.
Unfortunately they don't know where to start to make their vision a reality. Our WINGS program
offers families needing guidance and support an opportunity to work, within a faith community, to
learn, grow, and accomplish long and short term goals in order to move their families towards
financial independence.

- WINGS provides opportunities for congregations to respond to their call to demonstrate
God’s love in our community.
- WINGS links families in need to a loving congregation to begin a journey of stepping up to
identify needs, stepping out in faith to achieve goals and taking flight to reach self sufficiency
and lasting independence.
- WINGS provides congregational members, an opportunity to work with partner families in
very specific ways, such as monitoring, tutoring, repairs, child rearing, budgeting, etc.
- Volunteers exhibit the face of God to families in need.

In 1997 with the implementation of the Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW),
CCHASM saw an opportunity to work with our local Department of Social Services to aid those
families that might be struggling with their transition from welfare to financial independence. The
concept of WINGS (Winning Independence Through Nurturing, Guidance and Support) was born
of this need.
Today, our WINGS Outreach Program reaches out to families in need who have expressed a
desire to set personal, spiritual and employment goals and work with our faith based members to
move their families towards financial independence.
CCHASM saw an opportunity to work with our local Department of Social Services to aid those
